Not a lot to report really.

Popped into the Crown for quick drink on Thursday(as ever did not stick to this plan) & bumped into Smokey, Merlin & some others. Had a fun evening talking about random things.

Latest update in the car saga - have taken it to a third garage & have another long lists of faults. Three garages have now also confirmed the exhaust is screwed but dealer refuses to accept this. I have now had to resort to sending them a letter giving them 14 days to cough up some cash towards repairs or give me a refund. If this fails, I will be taking matters to Court (as we have a legal protection policy it wont cost me anything). Car is currently parked up outside - as it is likely to be the subject of a legal battle, I cant actually drive it at all (given the list of things wrong, probably not a bad thing anyway).

Having a quite weekend in as I dont really feel up to doing much. I have yucky mouth ulcers which have caused my lip to swell and am getting fed up with jokes about being punched in the mouth. Thanks people, I know it looks bad, it feels pretty painful too and if one more person makes that joke I may be punching other people in the mouth. Gr.

Better news - my YouGov account has recently reached £50 and I have now received their cheque. Yey, £50 free cash. I may now wander off to Amazon to see what I can spend it on.

Friday nights do seem to be missing a certain something now though.

We had hoped to make it out on Saturday night but it didn't quite happen.

Car stuff - Picked it up on Tuesday - They have fitted a new part to the exhaust, fitted a bulb, and replaced the brake pads. They reckon all the other problems were caused by NW looking for things to fix. Took car out for a drive over the weekend - Much quieter, but still seems a bit wibbly at speeds but I'm not sure if thats due to me being paranoid now. So all seems to be OK but I am still thinking about getting yet another garage to have a look. I think it may also be worth while changing the cambelt on it.

Took the car back to the garage this morning armed with list of problems - They are going to take the car to their mechanic on Tuesday and should be getting most of the items fixed. Get the feeling they may well argue about the exhaust as their worrying comment on this was "exhausts can look bad but still be serviceable, you cant tell if theres a problem until it falls off!" And there was me thinking that maintenance was to prevent things getting to the dropping off stage. Current plan is to see what they come back with on Tuesday - if we are still not happy with the exhaust we will take it to an exhaust place for a third opinion. On Thursday I was all up for insisting they take the car back but thinking about it, I really like the car and dont want the additional hassle of finding a new one and having to pay another £35 to change the insurance over. So long as they get everything fixed, I'll be happy to take it back. K was taking notes in the garage which seemed to keep them being quite agreeable to our point of view!

On the way back we stopped in at Sazz on North St and had a Turkish breakfast which was lovely. Turkish sausage, eggs, pepper and cheese served with bread. Bit like an omlett really but still very nice. I also tried the Turkish coffee which was strong (good) but overly sweet for my liking. Nice place though and makes a change from the usual full English.

Took the car in on Tuesday for a service and still havent had it back. They said it would take most of the day fair enough & then rang at 6 to say they had found several areas of work & they would ring back in the morning with a full quote. They rang & said they would ring back at lunch time - heard nothing so rang again and was told person dealing had gone home and would ring me in the morning. Rang this morning - person had gone out & would ring back within the hour - Over an hour later they ring back with a rather pricy list. I asked when I could get my car & they said it would be ready at 4:30! They stopped servicing it whilst they priced up the repairs. They also said they could have all the repairs done by Saturday. At which point I told them I was very unhappy they have screwed up our holiday by keeping our car for 3 days, they dont ring back when they say the will & have no confidence left in them. They said they would try & get the car back quicker but I am not holding my breath. It's also frustrating as it means its unlikely I can get the car to another garage this week. Grrr.

The car is poorly :(

Garage 1 - serviced car & has given an estimate of £700/£800 for repairs - Currently waiting for them to give me a full break down of this.

Exhaust needs completely replacing - Having checked with a few other garages, they seem to think that is likely only part of the exhaust needs replacing so looking to get a second opinion.

Front brake pads worn - Pretty concerned about this & will get done ASAP

Radiator - AGain may seek another opinion as I may be able to patch this up.

Garage 2 quoted me £718 for the all the above works (based on cost of replacing all the exhaust parts & they have broken down the price of each indivdual part.

Garage 3 - Quoted about £318 for all the above.

Other problems include headlamp bulb & wipers but I can sort these out myself.

Bah.
Picked up our nice new car on Friday so have been pottering around, getting used to her. Had a near miss with a speed camera - I thought I was only doing 20mph but it seemed a bit fast - turns out I was looking at the rev counter, not the speedo. Oops! Really nice drive and nice purr from a lovely modern engine. So much easier to maneuver as well. I had to get out of a tight parking spot which I was thought was going to be tough - with the power steering it was easy! Yey! I like our new car :) Have to take her back to the garage tomorrow though but only so they can fix the back passenger door. When driving on Friday, got to about 50mph & there was an odd squeaking noise coming from the engine which was somewhat disturbing. Everything seems OK under the bonnet - Brian thinks it might be due to the petrol being practically drained & hence all the grotty bits are going through the engine and it should be OK now i have filled it up. Took a drive up the portway - all seems to be OK & no more noise so looks like he was right. At least I have a warranty in case it is something else. We have settled on a name for her so welcome home Betty mark 2. Not very imaginative I know but nothing else really fits.

I get my bonus on Friday and have already blown it. On a new car! Yey! The new arrival is a metallic blue Peugeot 206 X reg with lots of new toys. She is lovely! Really nice to drive as well, although power steering now feels really strange. Can't wait til Friday when we pick her up.
Just need to think of a name for her.

Our little Clio is going to the great scrapheap in the sky (unless she is lucky & someone buys her). She has been a fab first car - cheap to buy, cheap to run & very few running problems, aside from minor faults like batteries and fuses. I thought I'd never get used to driving her after being used to power steering but now any other car seems very strange. I hope someone gives a new home.

I have ordered a copy of the delux roleplaying book for a Song of Ice & Fire. Yeah I know, I'm not a roleplaying fan. But it is a huge book, with lots of artwork & background & very good quality. The best bit is that George R Martin will be signing it for me! Yey! Will have to do as my fix until he gets round to finishing the next book.

I am also really chuffed, as to order, I had to email him direct - I got a personal response within 15 minutes. I am very impressed, and will keep the email for evermore. (although the cynic in me says it might just be someone else answering on his behalf) I dont really care though - I'm still pleased.

It's one of the reasons I like GRRM - One of the few authors who is happy to communicate with his fans, I don't know of any other authors who would send an open invitation to all his fans to meet up for a pizza crawl!

Its been quite a while since I updated this thing so I decided just to do one of those daft meme things instead.

Generally had a good time. Actually made it to Insidious on Saturday & it was great to catch up with people. Christmas Eve we visited my family, which was good.Christmas Day was pretty laid back,K cooked a lovely breakfast which we washed down with Bucks Fizz. Lounged around watching telly & eating chocs until dinner at 7. I cooked & it didn't turn out too bad! We shared a few bottles of good wine & then moved to the cheap & nasty stuff because by then we didn't care!
Boxing day was also pretty chilled, just a trip out to the Fitzharding to catch up with N & K.
Feels a bit odd really to be back at work. Has been quite quiet though so time to catch up on stuff.

1.	What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Got hitched to the best man in the world J Changed my name.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I quit smoking, which lasted about 3 months! Not quite a resolution but I kept going to the gym lots. I have no plans to make any this year as it’s only depressing when you give up on them. For some reason, I find it easier to keep resolutions when they are made at any other time of the year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Blackrose gave birth to a son, who is doing well (although I haven’t seen him yet). And no, we have no plans on have any kiddies just yet.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No
5. What countries did you visit?
Japan – Wonderful place, I would like to go & visit again and again. Still so much to see!
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Power steering in the car!
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
2nd September – our wedding!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Cant really think of anything. Managed to organise a wedding. Did some long distance journeys to Peterborough & Leeds which boosted my driving confidence.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing my insurance exams due to not enough revision. Oh well, better luck next year.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My wedding dresses
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Harriet & Claire for organising a fab hen night!
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
No-one close to me really.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Weddings, honeymoon, books & drinking
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Wedding & visiting Japan
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Like a Child again – the Mission
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? – Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? – A bit thinner
iii. richer or poorer? – A bit better off
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Seeing friends & family
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking to excess!
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my husband (still sounds odd that!)
21. How will you be spending New Years?
With friends at a house party
22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Fell in love again with K (feel free to get a bucket at this point!)
23. How many one-night stands?
None
24. What was your favorite TV program?
The Hogfather
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, I feel hate is a waste of time & emotion
26. What was the best book you read?
Either The Song of Ice & Fire series or Unweaving the Rainbow
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nothing really, I don’t tend to listen to much new stuff
28. What did you want and get?
A wonderful husband, lovely wedding, fab honeymoon & lots of books.
29. What did you want and not get?
To pass my insurance exams!
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Hmm, nothing really springs to mind.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Cant remember – probably hanging around in the hatch though!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Cant think of anything. It was a good year.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Same as usual, occasional dressing up in gorgeous goth frocks but usually jeans, t-shirt & DM’s.
34. What kept you sane?
Who said anything about being sane?
2. 35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Penn Jilette (spelling?) I know, I have strange taste.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Creationist science & religious indoctrination. Also the gradual reduction in civil liberties & the general hassle of trying to travel by plane.
37. Who did you miss?
3.	Cant think of anyone.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
.Aikira from Osaka for giving me insight into the Japanese lifestyle.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Life is good
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Suteki da ne (isn’t it wonderful,)

You have an exceptional moral code, overshadowed by the fact that you yourself cannot uphold it.

Your existence bears a definite irony, although of fairly Christian morality, many pagans, satanists, communists, and intellectuals admire you and your works for all the wrong reasons.

Also, the brighest star in your sky is never going to be your lover...

It takes a lot of grief to be the cartographer of hell.

Dante Alighieri

75%

Friedrich Nietzsche

67%

Miyamoto Musashi

58%

Stephen Hawking

50%

Charles Manson

33%

Elvis Presley

33%

O.J.

Its been a while since I updated this thing but not a lot has been happening lately. Its pretty much been the same old same old. I am glad last week is over though, I managed to break one of our Bristol Blue champagne flutes, lost my mobile phone and had a row with the neighbours. I bought a replacement glass only to get home & find it didn’t match! Took it back to the shop & the nice lady agreed to take our glass to the factory & get a replica made for us. Phew, we will have 2 glasses after all.

The mobile phone has not turned up, I think I left it in a taxi bah so have had to buy a new one. It turns out to be surprisingly difficult to get a PAYG phone on the 3 network but as I have only just started my contract with them I don’t have a lot of choice in this. Hopefully will get my new cheap & cheerful phone on Thursday.

Neighbours said that we have been constantly making lots of noise on weeknights keeping them awake. This we think relates to one night when Steven came round & the 3 of us were chatting (not having a wild party, just talking) and didn’t realise how loud we sounded. We did apologise at the time but a one off incident of noise over a 4 period does not seem like a matter to get so wound up over. They are also annoyed because of our cats crapping in their garden. Whilst I can see their point & agree it is not pleasant to have cat crap in your garden if you don’t have a cat, what really annoyed me was that they threw it directly at our backdoor. Wouldn’t have minded so much if they had just chucked in the garden or asked us to remove it. Even more annoying as on this occasion it wasn’t our cats, as our poor kitties have been shut in since last Thursday in an effort to retrain them into using their litter tray. Not really sure what to do for the best on this – our cats have always been outdoor cats and we can’t keep them in indefinitely. But how do we make them stay out of neighbour’s garden? We did suggest to our neighbours that they scare the cats off whenever they see them or try citrus peel/pepper in their garden to put the cats off but they think this is putting the responsibility on them to sort out the problem. I was thinking that we could buy one of those cat repellent things, which emit soundwaves to scare cats away & give it to the neighbours. Mithy is not so keen on this as he feels with their attitude we should just have nothing to do with them at all.

Had a good night last night – met Mithy in the hatchet where we caught up with some people before heading over to RFH to meet Psycho, Fred & Sinister.

It was good to catch up as we have been pretty quiet lately and haven’t seen people as much as I’d like. Still, we appear to have had our weekend mapped out for us now, Friday at the Hatch, Saturday a meal with James & Clair and Sunday a visit to my mums. Quite scary, I am not usually organised this far ahead!

For someone who hasn’t actually done much recently, I certainly have managed to waffle on a bit here so I guess I’d best stop & get on with some work now, bah.

My first post as a Mrs! It still feels a bit strange & the name change has taken some getting used too, at work I am supposed to give out my full name every time I answer the phone but because I keep switching between the two, I have just stuck to my first name. Half the papers I have signed have been in different surnames too, whoops!

People ask what’s like being married. In all honesty, given that we have been living together for many years, it hasn’t made a great deal of difference. Having said that, I do get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about what a wonderful husband I have in Mithy, and it’s kind of nice to able to refer to my husband J

The wedding was wonderful, had a great day, even if it all did go past in a bit of a blur. New registry office has been done up pretty well & the registrar on the day was lovely. Meal was delicious and speeches went well. Mithy’s gran did a great job on the cake. Our evening do was lots of fun, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The suite in the Marriott was fab and when we got back in the evening, they gave us a bottle of champagne & strawberries which was a great way to end the day.

Japan was fantastic, we had a great time, met some lovely people, saw wonderful sights and ate strange and yummy food.

If the above seems like a minimalist amount of detail to cover a wedding & 2 week honeymoon, I kept a paper diary with as much detail as I could remember which I will transfer here as soon as I get round to it. At least that way, I’ll be able to read it as the paper version is very scrappy!

First week back at work has been somewhat painful so I’m glad its almost over. Friday at last! Looking forward to going out tonight and catching up with people.

My last day as Ms W! Tomorrow I will be a Mrs! It's going to feel quite strange & will take some getting used to. Glad to say that I dont really feel nervous about marrying Mithy (just a bit wibbly in case I start a mad giggling fit whilst exchanging vows!). I am looking forward to being his wife. Eek, more weirdness, me a wife!

Majority of our preparations are now done. My dress has arrived & is safely at my mum's as are the bridesmaid dresses. B_hinds has kindly offered to decorate for the evening & has been given all the bits.

I got my last few bits & bobs yesterday, although a huge golf umbrella wasnt originally on my list of must have wedding accessories!

Today will just be packing the last few bits, making sure house is tidy & presentable & delivering last minute invites. I also have a lady coming round to give me a manicure (v.girly for me)

I'd probably best get off the computer & start getting ready. So here ends my last LJ post as a single woman.

Yey, I finally have my wedding dress, it fits & is lovely :) Very happy now. Also happy because it is my last day in work for weeks yey! Am now starting to get really excited. Only downside it that it looks like the weather will be bad, bah. Oh well, guess I have to get a huge brolly at lunchtime. I am currently sitting surrounded by balloons & banners which is slightly embarasing, sweet thought though.

Have just been told one of the ladies at work has lost her husband. It was very unexpected. He was out cycling with his club on Sunday & fell off his bike. Seemed OK Sunday night & Monday morning, and then his parents came to see him in the afternoon & found him dead. Such a sad, sad thing to happen. We are all clubbing together to buy her a card & some flowers but what can you really say in situations like these?

I can’t believe how quickly its coming round! Have just rang our day reception location to confirm the final numbers & details. Its all falling into place now, and there isn’t much left to do, apart from decorations for the evening. Just need to buy a few bits & pieces, some new make up, some bits to take to Japan etc. It would probably help if I could decide what to do with my hair as well.

Had my hen night on Saturday, which was great fun. Met up at B’s house first where we had cocktails & nibbles whilst getting ready. Then headed up to Whiteladies Road, where we made a brief stop at Henry Africa’s. Very busy in there so we moved on to H & C’s newest discovery, Henderson’s Bar where we had more cocktails. The lovely staff gave me a free champagne cocktail which I thought was a really sweet touch. H&C also gave me champagne as well so I had a lovely time. It is a really nice laid back place & I would happy to go back there (although it would need to be after payday!). We finished off at the Hatch (where else!). Was a bit confused at the end though – we were waiting for a taxis & one of the girls saw Mithy but told him to go away as he couldn’t see me? As the night was pretty much over, I don’t think it mattered by that point & seemed a bit daft to make him get a cab to the same place by himself. Ah well.

Got home to find he had left a lovely text for me & he had managed to get home first, which was a great way to end a fun evening. Surprisingly enough for a stag & hen night, we were both pretty restrained and neither of us was too badly drunk, which was good. It was also good that neither of us got sent to Scotland or any similar ‘jokes’ played.
